Operating Scissors – Straight, Blunt/Blunt – 15 cm
Operating Scissors – Straight, Blunt/Blunt – 15 cm
Blunt tips exist for one reason: so that you can put the scissors somewhere sharp points should never go.
Sliding a blade under a dressing that is sitting against skin, working along the edge of a padding cut-out, trimming tubular bandage on a foot that cannot feel the tip coming — those are the moments a pointed scissor nicks a patient. Both tips on these Operating Scissors are rounded, so the lower blade can lead the way beneath a bandage without catching the skin underneath.
That safety does not cost you the cut. The blades are ground to meet cleanly along their full length and close from heel to tip, which is what gets you through felt, fleecy web, adhesive padding and multiple layers of gauze in a single pass rather than chewing at them.
At 15 cm the instrument has enough blade to take long, straight cuts through dressing material, and enough handle to keep control at the end of a list. The straight pattern keeps the blades in line with your forearm for cutting on a flat surface or along a limb.
Made from stainless steel with a screw joint and fully autoclavable.
For use by podiatrists, nurses and other suitably trained clinicians.
Key Benefits
- Slide the tip under a dressing without nicking the skin beneath it
- Take long, straight cuts through padding and bandage in one pass
- Blades that close cleanly all the way to the tip, not just at the heel
- Safe around patients with reduced sensation, who will not feel a point coming
- Enough handle to stay controlled through a full list
- Priced to keep a dedicated pair for adhesive materials and another for clean work
- Autoclave it, dry it, use it again tomorrow
Features
- Both blades blunt-tipped for safe work against skin
- Straight pattern for in-line cutting on a flat surface or along a limb
- Blades ground to shear cleanly from heel to tip
- 15 cm length with a generous cutting edge
- Screw joint holds blade tension over time
- Ring handles for controlled, familiar operation
- Stainless steel construction, corrosion resistant
- Fully autoclavable and reusable
How to Use
- Confirm the scissors have been cleaned and sterilised before use.
- Check the blades shear cleanly along their whole length — a scrap of gauze at the tip is a reliable test.
- Hold with your thumb and ring finger in the rings and your index finger along the shank for control.
- When cutting near skin, lead with the lower blunt blade and keep it flat against the surface, not angled into it.
- Use long strokes through the middle of the blade for dressing material, and the tip only for fine, controlled trimming.
- Work in line with your own clinical training and your practice protocol.
- After use, open the blades fully and clean thoroughly, paying attention to the joint and the inner blade faces.
- Dry, lubricate the screw joint and sterilise following your practice's decontamination procedure.
- Store dry with the blades closed but not under tension, and check the cutting action before the next use.
Ideal For
- Podiatry clinics, foot-care rooms and treatment trolleys
- Cutting dressings, gauze and tubular bandage
- Trimming felt, fleecy web and adhesive padding to shape
- Removing dressings safely from skin
- Working around patients with neuropathy or reduced sensation
- General clinic use where a pointed tip is a risk rather than a help
Important Care and Safety
- Professional use only. Intended for podiatrists, nurses and other trained clinicians, and not suitable for use at home.
- Clean, dry and sterilise before first use and between every patient, following your practice's decontamination policy.
- Keep a separate, marked pair for adhesive padding and tape. Adhesive residue dulls an edge faster than anything else in the room, and gumming it up ruins a good pair of scissors.
- Do not use these scissors to cut suture wire, metal, plaster or dressing packs — it springs the blades and destroys the shearing action.
- Blunt tips reduce risk but do not remove it. Keep the lower blade flat and visible whenever you cut near skin.
- Inspect the blades and joint before each use. Withdraw from service if the blades fold material instead of cutting it, or if the joint has gone loose.
- Dry thoroughly after cleaning and lubricate the joint to prevent corrosion and stiffness.
- Store safely and keep out of reach of children.
